Project Manager for the Development of a Spatial Image Processing Chain

Job description

As part of its Earth observation activities, Magellium is involved in major programs led by space agencies and other institutions. Magellium is recognized by its customers for its scientific expertise in many fields, ranging from measurement physics to downstream applications. The Earth observation projects entrusted to us by our customers involve, in particular, the implementation of scientific processing chains for data acquired by satellites.

These processing chains, whether prototypes or operational, are developed with a view to integration into the ground segments of satellite missions. The specificity of these processes lies in the combined mastery of scientific or algorithmic remote sensing techniques and the methodological, organizational, and IT engineering of processing chains in an environment often constrained by robustness and performance requirements.

Within the Earth Observation unit, you will work as part of a team specializing in geometric modeling of satellite sensors and the development of processing chain prototypes, with space agencies, including CNES and ESA, as your main clients.

As part of the launch of a new project, the Geometry team is looking for an experienced project manager to take charge of projects involving the development of image processing chains for Earth observation.

As Project Manager, you are responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating all activities related to the design, development, validation, and delivery of various image processing chains for Earth observation missions. You are the primary point of contact for end customers and are responsible for ensuring that Magellium meets its commitments on these projects. You are also responsible for the financial results of your projects.

In practice, you will be responsible for managing projects to develop processing chains for future Earth observation missions by space agencies and New Space companies. This includes data simulation, data correction, calibration/validation tools, and downstream applications (e.g., deep learning). You will take an interest in the thematic areas of these projects to ensure your independence in decision-making, in conjunction with technical managers.

As such, your main missions include :

  • Overall management and coordinationof various image processing chain development projects, ensuring that objectives are met, in collaboration with the client and partners.
  • Planning, monitoring, and reportingon development progress (management of deadlines, resources, and risks, particularly technical risks)
  • Interface management and collaborationwith technical experts for detailed specification of tools and algorithms,
  • Supervision and validation of thedesign, development, and testing phases(unit, integration, and validation) to ensure that the project complies with technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining operational readiness(MOC) andmanaging changesto existing tools, incorporating user feedback,
  • Coordinating responses to calls for tenders andactively contributing to the development of proposals, particularly with regard to functional, organizational, and contractual aspects.

Profile required

With a degree from a prestigious engineering school, you have proven experience in managing complex projects, ideally in the space or defense sector, or even in an international context.

You are passionate about space and ideally have experience in the field of satellite image processing chains.

Technical skills/hard skills:

  • Proficiency in project management processes, tools, and methods (planning, reporting, risk management, budget monitoring),
  • Ability to manage projects with a strong technical/scientific component,
  • Very good command of English, both written and spoken.

Soft skills:

  • Interest in scientific fields,
  • Intellectual curiosity,
  • Writing and oral communication skills (presentation and discussion with experts),
  • Good ability to synthesize and be thorough,
  • Good ability to adapt and learn new technical skills,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and clear communication.
  • Autonomy, sense of responsibility, and commitment.
