Job description
As part of its Earth observation activities, Magellium is involved in major programs led by space agencies and other institutions. Magellium is recognized by its customers for its scientific expertise in many fields, ranging from measurement physics to downstream applications. The Earth observation projects entrusted to us by our customers involve, in particular, the implementation of scientific processing chains for data acquired by satellites.
These processing chains, whether prototypes or operational, are developed with a view to integration into the ground segments of satellite missions. The specificity of these processes lies in the combined mastery of scientific or algorithmic remote sensing techniques and the methodological, organizational, and IT engineering of processing chains in an environment often constrained by robustness and performance requirements.
As part of our “Earth Observation” Unit, you will work as part of a team specializing in the radiometric and geometric modeling of satellite sensors—that is, the range of techniques used to correct and calibrate image measurements and to determine the precise geolocation of satellite images. Our main clients are space agencies, including CNES and ESA.
Your role focuses on the development of operational satellite image processing pipelines and related tools, including image simulation, image correction, and calibration/validation processes.
As such, your main missions include :
- Algorithm specification: Help define the algorithms for processing chains in collaboration with business experts.
- Algorithm development and validation: design, implement, and validate correction algorithms for images from space-based optical sensors. Design of calibration/validation and quality control tools: develop calibration/validation tools to measure and improve image quality.
- Quality Assurance: Perform unit and integration tests to ensure the accuracy and quality of software development. Operational Maintenance: Ensure the ongoing development and operational support of existing tools.
- Documentation and Support: Prepare technical documentation for the work performed and provide technical support to users of the tools.
Profile required
You are a graduate of an engineering school and/or hold a master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or image processing, and you have at least three years of proven experience in software development. You have a strong understanding of algorithms. You are interested in the space sector and ideally have experience in the field of space ground segments.
Technical skills:
- Good written and spoken English
- Scientific programming skills (Python and/or C++)
- Proficiency in Docker and continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices
- Desired knowledge base in applied mathematics, particularly in signal processing
Soft skills:
- Taste for scientific fields
- Ability to document (writing and reading) and communicate orally (presentation and discussion with experts).
- Ability to adapt and develop skills in new technical areas
- Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and clear communication

Yes, we hire end-of-study internships. These internships can then develop into permanent contracts (50% of internships transformed into permanent contracts by 2023).

The trial period is 4 months. This period may be renewed in certain situations, but not systematically.

Yes, when you arrive you'll be provided with a workstation complete with monitor, PC, keyboard and mouse. Office supplies will also be at your disposal.
Is remote work possible?
Our company agreement provides for the possibility of remote work up to 2 days a week. Remote working is possible as soon as the trial period has been validated and provided the project allows it (for example, this is not the case for defense projects for reasons of confidentiality).
