Scientific Research Engineer in Earth Observation and Climate Change (M/F)
Job description
Magellium Artal Group, with its 300 employees, is an independent company specializing in the remote sensing data value chain (from satellite and drone sensors to their use in Earth observation systems and services, mapping, and geointelligence), promoting expertise in space technologies, software, signal processing, and geomatics.
As part of its Earth Observation activities, Magellium Artal Group participates in major programs led by space agencies and other institutions. Magellium is recognized by its clients for its scientific expertise across a wide range of fields, from measurement physics to downstream applications. The Earth observation projects entrusted to us by our clients involve, in particular, scientific processing chains for data acquired by satellites.
Within the Earth Observation Unit (https://earthobservation.magellium.com/), Magellium Artal Group also develops scientific expertise in collaboration with laboratories across various application areas related to major Earth system challenges, producing data and studies on key environmental variables at various spatial and temporal scales.
These activities typically involve processing geophysical data and extracting the key signals of interest in order to conduct studies in partnership with relevant scientific laboratories in these fields. In particular, extensive and specialized expertise in processing Earth observation data for climate change research has been developed over the past several years, with the aim of defining, generating, and validating indicators such as changes in ocean heat content or the Earth’s energy balance using geodetic space data (altimetric and gravimetric).
As part of the Climate Division within the Earth Observation Unit, you will join a team of approximately 15 experts dedicated to developing climate indicators using space-based data.
You will primarily be involved inthe analysis of space-based gravity data, which is used to quantify mass transfers within the Earth system (ice melt, sea level rise, and the hydrological cycle). In this capacity, you will contribute to the processing and analysis of data from past (GRACE), current (GRACE-FO), and future (NGGM, MAGIC) missions, based on actual observations or simulations.
You will also participate in key projects such as the CNES SAGSA project, which aims to develop a data and services center for space gravimetry, and the ESA SING project, which aims to assess the contribution of future space gravimetry missions to scientific and operational applications.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Collect, analyze, and evaluate scientific data related to project objectives
- Design and develop methods and algorithms for processing geophysical data
- Conduct scientific studies independently, in collaboration with internal teams and clients
- Drafting scientific deliverables: reports, technical documents, publications
- Present the results (project meetings, national and international conferences)
- Conduct literature reviews and monitor scientific and technological developments
Profile required
You hold a Ph.D. or an engineering degree (from a Grande École) with a specialization in applied mathematics, physics, Earth sciences, or remote sensing. Experience in a research laboratory or industry demonstrating your ability to independently lead scientific projects is highly valued, particularly in the following fields: space gravimetry, remote sensing, oceanography, hydrology, and Earth observation.
Contributing to scientific publications (articles, ATBD, PUM) is a plus.
