Software Development Engineer – Earth Observation – M/F
Job description
We are recruiting a development engineer for our Earth Observation unit.
You will be starting on one of the Unit's flagship projects, whose client is a European organization. In this context, Magellium is leading a consortium of a dozen private and institutional European partners.
At Magellium, you will work on this project as part of a team of around fifteen people. The aim of this project is to prepare the image processing chains that will be acquired by an Earth observation mission starting in 2026. The purpose of this mission will be to provide researchers with new data to better understand vegetation dynamics on a global scale.
As such, your main missions include :
● Participation in the following phases:
o development of operational processing chains based on prototypes developed by scientists,
o optimisation of algorithms, particularly with the aim of reducing processing times or memory footprint,
o implementation of unit tests and validation procedures,
o Support for software integration in the Computing Center, maintenance and development of processing chains in the operational phase.
● Drafting documents (reports, assessments, specifications, technical documentation, publications) and giving oral presentations of results within a project framework.
You will be able to contribute to activities that complement the project. You will be involved in the design and architecture of processing chains and/or in the development of technical proposals in response to calls for tenders.
Profile required
You have at least five years of recognized experience in IT development. You have a good understanding of algorithms.
You are passionate about space and ideally have experience in the field of space ground segments.
You have a very good level of written and spoken English. This allows you to read/write documentation and discuss/present with ease.
●Technical skills/hard skills:
o Scientific programming skills (primarily Python, C++ or Matlab preferred),
o Proficiency in Docker and continuous integration and development (CI/CD) procedures,
o Knowledge of applied mathematics is desirable, particularly in signal processing.
● Soft skills:
o Interest in scientific fields,
o Good ability to adapt and learn new technical skills,
o Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and clear communication.
o Independence, sense of responsibility, and commitment.
●Additional advantages:
o Knowledge of space segments and methodologies related to the development life cycle,
o Knowledge of engineering standards (ECSS or equivalent) and requirements engineering.

Yes, we hire end-of-study internships. These internships can then develop into permanent contracts (50% of internships transformed into permanent contracts by 2023).

The trial period is 4 months. This period may be renewed in certain situations, but not systematically.
Will I be provided with a work computer?
Yes, when you arrive you'll be provided with a workstation complete with monitor, PC, keyboard and mouse. Office supplies will also be at your disposal.
Is remote work possible?
Our company agreement provides for the possibility of remote work up to 2 days a week. Remote working is possible as soon as the trial period has been validated and provided the project allows it (for example, this is not the case for defense projects for reasons of confidentiality).
