LibGÉO, the reference library for space sensor geometry
Developed since 2020 by Magellium Artal Group for CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales), in partnership withIGN (Institut National de l'Information Géographique et Forestière), LibGÉO is a geometric modeling software library designed forEarth observation sensors. It is based on more than 20 years of R&D, and is continually enriched in line with the missions and needs of the space sector.
It is the successor to Euclidium, the first geometric modeling library, also developed by Magellium Artal Group for CNES, which has long served as the benchmark for many space processing chains. LibGÉO builds on its foundations, with a modernized, more modular and adapted architecture.
LibGÉO provides precise geometric modeling: line of sight, co-location, modulation of acquisition parameters. Originally developed for the CNES CO3D mission, the library now supports numerous satellite missions (Pléiades, Pléiades NEO, Sentinel-2, CO3D, TRISHNA, 3MI, METImage, Metop SG, MicroCarb). Its adaptability to a wide range of sensors makes it a benchmark tool for modeling complex geometries.
A complete, adaptable geometric processing chain
LibGÉO covers a whole range of geometric processing needs, from line-of-sight reconstitution to disk serialization of visualization models. Its main functionalities include :
- Line-of-sight, RPC and grid modeling
- Direct (image>ground) and inverse (ground>image) localization and collocation (image1>image2) with intersection on digital elevation models
- Grid resampling between different geometries (image, ground, epipolar)
- Optimization of acquisition parameters via GCP (Ground Control Point) with image correlation

On the technical side, LibGÉO is based on a modular, Cloud-compatible C++ architecture with a Python API, and is available on multiple Linux distributions, offering optimum flexibility.
A solution tailored to industrial needs
Magellium Artal Group provides long-term support for LibGÉO through maintenance and distribution, as well as expertise, consultancy and research support, including customized development (new sensors and geometric correction chains). This support guarantees the long-term viability of the solution in industrial contexts, where the lifespan of space projects generally extends over several decades.
The LibGÉO tool, produced in agile mode, demonstrates Magellium Artal Group's ability to deploy robust technical solutions with a high level of quality and reliability. In 2025, a contract was also signed with TAS (Thales Alenia Space) for the supply of LibGÉO with integration support, becoming a reference for several major industrial players in addition to CNES.
