When innovation is at the heart of human-machine collaboration
The CoHoMa III Challenge was organized by Battle Lab Terre in partnership with the French Army and the Defense Innovation Agency (AID). Focusing on Human-Machine Collaboration(CoHoMa) in extreme operational conditions, the challenge aimed to propose innovative solutions to improve decision-making in the field.
Magellium Artal Group was part of the AEGIS team alongside KNDS France, SAFRAN and Shield Robotics.
A technological challenge in video processing
The aim of the challenge? To improve decision-making in the field by intelligently exploiting real-time video processing from UAVs and ground robots, in order to detect potential threats (traps, anomalies) and transmit critical information to the on-board chain of command.
Faced with a complex terrain, with several kilometers to cover and a high demand for responsiveness, our team rose to the challenge thanks to long-standing expertise in video stream processing and analysis.
Artificial intelligence and video processing: Magellium Artal Group's historic expertise
Already involved in previous editions of the challenge (CoHoMa II), our experts have actively collaborated within the AEGIS team with KNDS France, Safran and Shield Robotics.
Our work focused on :
- Video stream processing in degraded environments: development of robust algorithms capable of analyzing low-resolution, noisy video or video from disturbed sensors, while maintaining a high level of reliability.
- Automated ground-based threat detection: using image processing algorithms to quickly and accurately identify and geolocate suspicious elements, even under complex visual conditions.
- Transmission of real-time alerts to on-board units: integration of an on-board communication system to send critical alerts to the chain of command, enabling rapid, effective and localized decision-making.
This challenge was also an opportunity to reuse and adapt our existing software chain to the constraints of the field and the operational requirements of the system.
Jury recognition
The result was clear: we won 1st prize from the CoHoMa III jury, with a special mention for "Conquest of air-land space"!
This is a fine accolade for this demanding project, which mobilizes Magellium Artal Group's key skills in processing and exploiting video streams from UAVs.
Well done to the whole team for their hard work and this fine victory!
